Unlike pedestal mounted mailboxes such as the cluster mailbox unit, 3700 series 4C horizontal mailboxes are typically recessed into the wall. Available in aluminum, bronze, sandstone and black, 4C horizontal mailboxes are made of heavy-duty aluminum with stainless steel hardware and are ideal for office buildings, hotels, apartment complexes, government offices, universities, medical centers and other commercial developments. Outdoor Mailboxes for Commercial Buildings

The 3300 series cluster box unit (CBU) is a free-standing mailbox option for commercial buildings. Cluster mailboxes are USPS approved and are ideal for office complexes, industrial buildings, medical centers, hotels, retail stores, multifamily housing locations, warehouses and other commercial applications.

These units are extremely secure with heavy-duty cam locks and anti-fish plates to prevent mail tampering. CBUs include a pedestal and are available in 4, 8, 12, 13, and 16 mailbox door configurations (plus parcel lockers for package delivery).  Designed with elegance in mind, Salsbury Industries also offers regency decorative cluster mailboxes that come with a decorative top and decorative pedestal cover. What is ISO 9001:2015?

ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally agreed upon standard that describes a system by which a company can demonstrate their commitment to product quality in all of their activities. What is Standard USPS-STD-4B+?

The demand for improved mailbox security prompted the United States Postal Service to develop this standard. This standard requires manufacturers to strengthen and improve the master door (arrow lock compartment) on vertical style apartment house mail receptacles (3500 series) and horizontal style apartment house mail receptacles (3600 series). All Salsbury Industries 3500 and 3600 series mailboxes are USPS approved and in full compliance with the requirements of USPS-STD-4B . These 4B vertical and 4B horizontal mailboxes are approved for replacement and/or retrofit installations effective October 2006. For new construction or major remodels, 4C horizontal mailboxes (3700 series) are required.

What is Standard USPS-STD-4C?

The United States Postal Service addressed the shape of mailbox compartments and the demand for more secure mail and parcel delivery with a new standard, USPS-STD-4C. This standard replaces the traditional cube style compartments with more flat style compartments as well as incorporates fully integrated or stand-alone parcel locker options into the mailbox. A minimum of one parcel locker is required for every ten (10) tenant compartments. Parcel lockers are not required in installation sites with less than ten (10) tenant compartments. Salsbury Industries 3700 series 4C standard and custom high security horizontal mailboxes and fully integrated and stand-alone parcel lockers have been USPS approved and meet the specifications of USPS-STD-4C. This standard requires that 4C horizontal mailboxes and parcel lockers be installed in all new construction projects and major remodels effective October 2006.

Cluster Mailbox

What is a Cluster Box Unit?

A cluster mailbox or cluster box unit (CBU) is a free-standing, pedestal mailbox with 4, 8, 12, 13 or 16 individually locked mailbox compartments and up to 2 integrated parcel lockers approved by the U.S. Postal Service.

What are Standard USPS Cluster Box Units?

The Salsbury Standard Cluster Mailbox and Regency® Decorative CBU Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV, Type V, Type VI and Outdoor Parcel Lockers (OPL's) are all licensed and approved by the U. S. Postal Service. Ideal for commercial buildings, multi-family housing units, apartment complexes, government and military bases, schools, colleges and other residential and commercial developments, cluster mailboxes are ultra-durable and provide a secure means of receiving mail and packages. When you install your Cluster Mailbox the local post office will install an "Arrow Lock." This lock is used for the local post master to open the unit and deliver the mail. When the U.S. Postal Service delivers a package to the parcel locker, a parcel locker key is placed in the recipient's mailbox. Once the recipient opens the parcel locker, the key is automatically retained in the lock until it is removed with the USPS control key.

How do Cluster Mailboxes work?

In general, all cluster mailboxes work the same way. The carrier has a master key that opens the back of the unit or all the compartments at once. After placing the mail in the proper compartment, the carrier locks the CBU up and individual box users access their particular box with a key.

Who is responsible for Cluster Mailboxes?

The Postal Service is responsible for providing every customer a compartment lock and three (3) keys to his or her postal-owned Cluster Box Unit (CBU).  No key deposits are required and customers may duplicate their keys at no expense to the Postal Service.  The Postal Service keeps no duplicate keys and if the customer loses all the keys, the Postal Service will have to install a new lock and issue a new set of keys at the customer's expense.

If the mailbox is for a house, condo, apartment or other physical residence, customers make arrangements to pick up the mailbox key(s) from the owner, manager or prior resident when they move in.  The builder or property owner is responsible for providing lock and key service for privately owned cluster mailboxes.
